Advent Retreat

A Day with the Stations of the Crib: A Journey of Hope from Advent to Christmas

Join us for a unique day of reflection and spiritual renewal as we journey through the Stations of the Crib. Inspired by the familiar Stations of the Cross, this event will guide us through the significant moments leading up to the birth of Christ, offering a profound and hopeful perspective on the Advent season.

Throughout the day we will meditate on the anticipation, preparation, and joy that characterize this sacred time, drawing closer to the heart of the Christmas story. Each station will provide an opportunity for prayer, contemplation, and connection with the divine promise of hope and renewal.

Whether you are looking for a deeper understanding of Advent or simply wish to enrich your spiritual journey, this day promises to be a meaningful and uplifting experience. Come and share in the hope and joy of the season as we prepare our hearts for the celebration of Christ’s birth.

Please join us for Supper and for our closing event for our 40th Anniversary Celebration with a Christmas Concert after the retreat.

A Pilgrimage of the Heart

From Glory to Glory

According to scripture, humanity was created in the image and likeness of God. Adam and Eve, seeking understanding through personal effort rather than reliance on God, turned away from divine guidance. This decision led them away from the light, resulting in their minds and understanding being influenced by darkness, which caused them to no longer reflect God’s likeness. Nevertheless, the narrative of scripture describes how God continues to transform individuals into the likeness of Christ. Humanity was intended to bear God’s image and spread His glory throughout creation. The story outlined in scripture illustrates God’s work to restore humanity’s vision and understanding through Jesus Christ. Engaging with these scriptures offers the potential for individuals to be renewed in the likeness of Jesus, fulfilling the purpose for which they were originally created.

Through simple teaching, reflection, and community discussion, we will embark on a two-year journey of spiritual growth. The program includes six retreats: five Saturday workshops each year, featuring morning and afternoon sessions with teaching, reflection, and Q&A. A weekend “come away retreat” will be held every July, inspired by Mark 6:31. The first year focuses on foundational theology from creation to recreation, while the second year introduces practical tools for restoring Christlikeness.

Lenten Retreat

Do What God Did – Become Human.

Lent is a good time to become human. Join us for a Lenten Retreat inspired by the profound insights of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Through guided reflections, Scripture readings, and moments of silent prayer, we will explore the mystery of the Incarnation – God becoming human in Jesus Christ – and what it means for our own discipleship.

This retreat will challenge us to embrace true humanity as Christ did, to live with humility and love, and to follow the call of costly grace. Come ready for a day of spiritual renewal, reflection and a deeper encounter with Christ’s presence in our lives. All are welcome!

Hearing God's Voice in Today's World

Participants will practice intuitively listening to their own hearts and bodies through reflection, conversation, and prayerful movement.  In the morning, Sr. Annie Killian, OP, will offer brief talks on the Christian tradition of contemplative listening which will lead into a unique experience of conversations in the Spirit.

In the afternoon, all will be invited to move through St. Dominic’s Nine Ways of Prayer.  These are a series of bodily poses with guided meditation and song.  There are modifications to these poses for those who are unable to maintain the poses of St. Dominic.  These poses are optional, so if you are unable to participate in the poses, you may still receive benefit from the meditation and song.  You may bring a mat or a towel if you would like.

Saintly Stories and Flavors

Saints seem to have lived in their own worlds—but they still had to eat!  Join us for an evening and a day of sharing food with some of the saints.  (Please be aware that we’ll try to accommodate allergies and sensitivities in our recipes)

On Friday evening, we will have the Panforte Di Siena of St. Catherine of Siena and hear about her life and time.  Saturday noon, our appetizers will include the Salad of Saint Hildegard of Bingen and the Cheddar Scones of St. Anselm of Canterbury.  The main dish will be the Umbrian Style Pollo and Salsicca Arrosto of St. Francis of Assisi with side dishes of Carpenter Tomatoes of St. Joseph and Colcannon of St. Brigid of Ireland.  The meal will end on a flourish with the Flan de Naranja of St. Dominic and Abba’s Cup roasted coffees of our own Jeff Koch.
