On-line Book Study

Into the Mess and Other Jesus Stories: Reflections on the Life of Christ.

Author Debi Thomas will challenge us to take a second or even a third look at Scripture passages that sometimes, because they have become so familiar, lose their power. As the descriptor of the book reads: “The Jesus who emerges here is not the sanitized Christ of piety and platitude, but the Christ of complicated joys and transcendent sorrows. The Christ who weeps, wonders, loses, learns and seeks. These are the stories of the Incarnate God who finds and loves us in the messiness of our lives.” Please note you will need to purchase your own book for the study.

Navigating Life’s Journey through God’s Grace

We all face heartbreak, day-to-day struggles, tragedy and loss. There will be four sessions that will cover these vital topics:

We look forward to our journey together, in person or by zoom, for these timely teachings and practical activities as we learn tools to better understand God’s guidance for help in walking this trek we call “Life.”

Many of us have forgotten how to experience the sweetness of God. The sweet nectar of His work keeps us going when life crumbles around us. The sweetness of God is the energy that empowers us to endure hardships. By experiencing sweetness through chocolate we will be made aware of:

  • Knowing God is knowing his sweetness
  • Being loved by God means being enveloped by His sweetness
  • Living in the Spirit is about enjoying the sweetness of God.

Friday evening will begin with a Taize prayer service in the chapel, followed by a social with wine and chocolate pairings.

Writing with Scripture
Saturday May 4 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

If you have ever tried journaling for insight, this workshop will give you guidance on connecting journaling with Scripture.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Expand our Bible readings and daily devotions into words we choose ourselves.
  • Develop a practice through which we will be soaking in God’s word.

God’s Grace meets us every day. But what exactly is Grace? This retreat will offer some answers to that question. It will also explore some of the many forms of God’s Grace in our daily lives, such as the beauty of nature, prayer and the Eucharist, friendship, laughter, courage during hard times, peace amid turmoil, the ability to let go, hope in days of darkness. Using scripture, music, videos, poetry and humor, Sister Melannie will lead us in our week of reflection, while keeping in mind the words of Anne Lamott: “God’s Grace meets us where we are but does not leave us where it found us.”
